I LOVE food, Asian food to be more specific. So you can imagine how excited I was not to just travel through South East Asia last year but to also eat my way through the region. Yum! While I was familiar with most of the famous Thai and Vietnamese dishes, it was the first time I really experienced the Malay cuisine and it was quite mind blowing, I had no idea what I had been missing out on! I want to share my two all-time favourite Malay dishes with you and hope you get the chance to try them as well if you haven’t done so yet. If you’ve had them before, well, have more! :)

Nasi Lemak

Nasi Lemak is the probably most common dish in Malaysia and I have never met anyone who didn’t love it. It’s very basic but also very delicious so give it a shot if you get the chance! Or, you know, when you order with Delivery Hero again J

Nasi Lemak used to be a breakfast dish but since it’s just too awesome to have only once a day, it is now being eaten any time of the day, morning, noon, afternoon and evening. Nasi Lemak means “rice in cream” and is fragrant coconut rice that is accompanied by some delicious sides such as a hard boiled egg, dried anchovies, cucumber slices, roasted peanuts and hot spicy sauce. You can also add cuttlefish, chicken, pickled veggies and beef.

Hokkien Mee

Yeah, I know, this is not the most deliciously looking dish. I hesitated to order it but it turned out that this messy looking dish actually tastes fantastic! Hokkien Mee basically consists of thick egg noodles braised in thick dark soy sauce with squid, fish cake, pork and cabbage. It is often garnished with cubes of fried crispy port lards. Sounds funny, tastes delicious!

What do you think about the Malay cuisine, hot or not? Are you also a fan or do you rather stick to some good old Pad Thai when it comes to Asian cuisine? Let us know!
