Pssst. You should all know by now that this Sunday is Mother’s Day. But really every day is a good day to appreciate your Mum! She’s the woman who brought you into the world and raised you as the upstanding human beings that you are. Seriously, we have a lot to be thankful for, including our love of food! For most of us that love began at an early age in Mum’s kitchen. Some of those food memories were kick-started with licking the bowl after the chocolate cake went into the oven!

Think about it for sec. Your Mum has cooked literally THOUSANDS of meals for you! She’s made you breakfast, lunch and dinner, plus birthday cakes and desserts! If that’s not worth celebrating, we don’t know what is! Mother’s Day is a time to show your Mum that you care. Hang up her apron, bring her a cup of tea and let her relax. Cook her a special meal or order a takeaway feast!

The world can be neatly divided into two opposing camps – those who absolutely love sushi, and those who hate it with a passion. For those that don’t like sushi – for those who’ve never known the glorious heat wave that accompanies a mouthful of moist rice, silky salmon and furious wasabi – why don’t you check out some of our other posts, because this Delivery Hero blog post is about to turn into sushi central:)
There are several types of sushi, ranging from Maki sushi (the ‘traditional’ sushi roll), Nigiri sushi (fish on top of a chunk of rice), Uramaki (‘inside out’ sushi with the rice on the outside of the nori), and the Westernized ‘California Roll’ (which doesn’t actually use raw fish). Today we’re going to focus on how to make Maki sushi, so let’s round up the ingredients that we need and get to work… (more…)

Finding a name for a new restaurant isn’t easy – the pressure to come up with a killer tag is huge, and a particular name could make you – or break you (see: The Golden Shower in Tanzania, Big Wong in New York and Pu Pu Hot Pot in Massachusetts for examples). That’s probably why, when restaurateurs are choosing names for their establishments, they seem to go for a few main (and safe) categories: the groan-worthy puntastic, some sort of inane food reference, or an iconic motif. While we were having a gander at a few of our favourite places to eat in Bris-vegas, we noticed that they all had something in common: they’ve gone with an iconic motif in their names. Let’s investigate further… (more…)

Here at Delivery Hero, we decided to dig a little deeper to see if we could come up with some interesting and less-well publicized facts, and that’s when we came across a mind-blowing secret – how the organizers of the 2012 Olympics plan on feeding tens of thousands of athletes, officials, volunteers, press and an entire city… (more…)

With the London 2012 Olympics fast approaching, Delivery Hero got curious about what top athletes eat. At the Melbourne Olympics in 1952, Australian sprinter, John Landy, scoffed a couple of meat pies and a chocolate sundae less than two hours before breaking the world record. Hard to imagine that lunch being ok’d by sports nutritionists these days! Over the past 20 years there’s been a little bit more of a focus on getting the dietary balance right so that each athlete can get the best out of their training and performance. This means carbohydrates, protein, fat and sugar. Yes, even fat and sugar.

It’s no stretch to say that Delivery Hero fans and readers of our blog are a highly-connected, internet-savvy group of foodies. You’re up to date with the latest meal sharing apps, restaurant reviews and gourmet food blogs, and you’re also the kind of person that likes to try new (and delicious!) things. Now that we’ve hit the midway mark of 2012 (zomg can you believe it?), we’ve decided to look back at our post from earlier this year that predicted which food trends would bust out into the mainstream in 2012. Let’s see how many food trend points you’ve accumulated so far, and if you haven’t tried any of the following trends then at least that fat tax refund is just around the corner!

Peruvian Chicken Empanada – basically a Peruvian pastie
Peruvian cuisine: What a fabulously trendy cuisine this year! Peruvian food has been getting some hype after established chefs in Peru began perfecting their humble home cooking and producing some gourmet dishes sourced from local and regional ingredients. The food influences come from many sources including Incan, Chinese, Spanish, Japanese and Italian cooking traditions, some of the best cuisines in our opinion! An empanada stuffed with minced chicken and salted olives, spiced with paprika and cumin will surely fit the bill. Or perhaps a Chinese-influenced traditional Peruvian fried rice with shredded pork and a dash of soy sauce. With the variety of flavour and colour in Peruvian cuisine, there’s certainly something for everyone. Food points: 2 if you’ve tried Peruvian food so far this year. (more…)

Here at Delivery Hero we pride ourselves on offering you delicious takeaway that’s easy to order and great value. However, sometimes you want to know what the limit is – how much could you pay for a single meal if you wanted to go all out? To save you the trouble of burning your pay-check in one go, we’ve done the research and found the 5 most expensive meals in the world, just in case you feel like skipping the Thai Beef Salad tonight and going all out:)

What! I thought it said a billion, not a zillion
The Zillion Dollar Lobster Frittata – $1000 The folks at Norma’s restaurant in Le Parker Meridien Hotel, New York sure have a sense of humour. The Zillion Dollar Lobster Frittata is an apparently simple omelette with a very tasty (and expensive) addition: caviar. In addition to the lobster, your chef tops the omelette with 10 ounces of severga caviar from the Caspian Sea, ringing up the bill for a cool $1000 breakfast, coffee not included. If that’s a bit of a stretch, you can always opt for the 1 ounce version, which will only set you back $100. Not bad

Aaaah, Sydney in the winter time. It’s the time of year when our collective ego takes a beating and we realise our great city isn’t impervious to London-style grey skies and gloomy days. We all start rugging up, going through our ‘dvds I haven’t watched yet’ list and working out how many sick days we have left.
It’s also the time of year when a night out carries a little less attraction, especially when it’s 15 degrees outside and pouring down. You could always force yourself to brave the torrential rain, or you could stay at home, order in something delicious and relax. To help you make the right decision Delivery Hero has put together a little list of 5 Reasons to Stay In & Order Takeaway:
1.) You’re Not As Good At Jumping Over Puddles as You Think You Are
Everyone holds onto beliefs about their own abilities that often do not stand up to the test of reality, but let’s get this one out of the way. If you go out, you will encounter puddles, and, somewhere in the back of your mind, you think that you can jump over every single one of them like the lady in this photo:
What You Think Will Happen:
