How to Make Sushi Rolls – A Delivery Hero Guide

How to make Maki Sushi Rolls

The world can be neatly divided into two opposing camps – those who absolutely love sushi, and those who hate it with a passion. There are several types of sushi, ranging from Maki sushi (the ‘traditional’ sushi roll), Nigiri sushi (fish on top of a chunk of rice), Uramaki (‘inside out’ sushi with the rice on the outside of the nori), and the Westernized ‘California Roll’ (which doesn’t actually use raw fish). Today we’re going to focus on how to make Maki sushi, so let’s round up the ingredients that we need and get to work… (more…)

1) Dinosaurs   Who doesn’t like dinosaurs?! Seriously. Here at Delivery Hero, obviously we have a soft spot for caped-crusaders, but dinosaurs are definitely up there. As well as old-skool favourites like Tyrannosaurus Rex and Stegosaurus, the Australian Museum has welcomed a couple of new additions to the family, including the 228-million-year-old Eoraptor – one of the earliest dinosaurs; and the Bambiraptor. Awwwww! Yes, it really is called Bambiraptor, but in contrast to its doe-eyed namesake, this dino-toddler has very sharp, pointy teeth! (more…)

Delivery Hero foodies: the best of ordering in

At the Delivery Hero office, we’ve all embraced our inner foodie, but sometimes there are logistical challenges to actually making it out to a restaurant. Those work deadlines, family commitments, and restaurant waiting lists get in the way. But that’s where ordering in can take some of the pressure off – it can be as chilled or as special as you make it.

Of course there’s no doubt that eating out a restaurant and peeking in the kitchen is part of the whole foodie experience. But enjoying your meal in the comfort of your own home can add a different dimension to the meal – plus you don’t have to listen to the restaurant’s musak or the 78th Café del Mar compilation. You can listen to whatever the hell you want and take the food to the couch if you please.

The other cool thing about ordering in is that you don’t have to settle for boring, over-priced drinks. You can enjoy that boutique beer or longneck of Coopers straight from the bottle, or go the other way and fix yourself a gin and tonic, or a mojito to go with your meal (just for the hell of it!). Valentine’s Day Dinner

Love it or hate it, Valentine’s Day is upon us. Even if you’re against it on the basis of it being a commercial day, it might well be that your partner is still secretly expecting something for the occasion, in which case it’s probably better to plan something rather than disappoint!

Valentines Day

Traditional ideas for the day include booking a table at your favourite restaurant and enjoying a delicious Valentine’s Day meal in an intimate environment. This is a great idea in theory, however the reality is that the best restaurants are often booked up months in advance. If you do succeed in nabbing a table, it’s likely to be so packed, you’ll be bashing elbows with the couple on the next table. Then once the bill arrives, you’ll probably have to pay inflated prices for your favourite meal. (more…)

How To Make The Best Sangria

If you’re looking for a delicious beverage to pair with your food delivery, it’s hard to beat an ice cold glass of sangria. Sangria is a tasty summertime drink and also one of Spain’s most famous culinary exports, enjoyed by many all around the world. Deriving its name from the Spanish word for ‘blood’ (sangre) due to its rich, deep red colour, sangria is a wine punch that is super easy to make.

How to make the best sangria

The best sangria is extremely versatile -if you include a few basic ingredients, you can customise your sangria to suit your own taste.  In Spain and Portugal, you’ll find it in every bar, though the best sangria is usually made at home or served at house parties in a large punch bowl with a wooden ladle. Try making it at home or ordering from a fine restaurant. But whatever you do, don’t buy the pre-mixed varieties -it just won’t taste the same as freshly made. Essential ingredients for the best sangria are wine, chopped fruit, a sweetening agent, and a spirit such as brandy. Through a tough experimentation process ;) this is one of the best sangria recipes we’ve found. (more…)

How to Cook Perfect Rice

Considering the amount of dishes and cuisines for which rice is a staple, cooking rice should be a fairly straightforward task. Yet more often than not cooking perfect rice can be a difficult one to get right with sticky clumpy rice, watery rice or, worse still, a burnt pan often being the end result.

how to cook perfect rice

It seems like everyone has there own ideas about how to cook perfect rice. So as Chinese New Year is approaching, we thought we’d share with you our method, ensuring you’ll have the perfect accompaniment to some delicious Chinese delivery of course!

How to Cook Perfect Rice: Our Method!

  • First, rinse the rice under running water in a colander or sieve as this prevents it from becoming sticky. Continue rinsing until the water runs clear (around 2 minutes)
  • Place the rice in a pan. Fill the pan with water to around 2cm above the rice level. (The ratio of rice to water should be about 1 cup of rice to just under 1 1/2 cups of water).
  • Cover and bring to the boil. As soon as it starts to boil, reduce to a low heat so it is simmering.
  • Let it simmer for 10 minutes, keeping the cover on.
  • Remove the pan from the heat, keep it covered letting it steam for a further five minutes.
  • Fluff the rice with a fork or chopsticks before serving.
  • For added flavour use chicken or vegetable stock instead of water.

Fingers crossed you have cooked perfect rice!
